Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, said this quote when referring to U2:
“It’s like comparing a high jumper with an astronaut. We are doing all right, but they have gone a lot further and a lot higher. For where we are, we are doing great, but we are only ever going to come off second-best in that comparison.”
I love that quote. It’s true in a lot of ways when you compare Coldplay to U2. I love both bands, but there is only one U2 and they’re pretty much at the top.
It just goes to show, it doesn’t matter who you are as a creator–there’s always going to be somebody bigger (and probably better) than you. Comparisons only lead to doubt and jealousy and all that. You have to let things like that go. And I try to every day, though it’s hard sometimes. It can be really hard.
