Ghostwriter Impressions

It’s a few months before the release of Ghostwriter. So far, the only person I’ve interacted with on this story has been my wonderful and patient editor. I’m still far too close to the story to know if it’s decent or good or great. But I’ve been hearing some good things from those closest to me (who have gotten initial advanced reader copies). I’m past the point of being nervous about the release–I’m well into this publishing ocean, having set sail eleven books ago. I’m eager to see what readers think of the new one.

With all that in mind, why did I write Ghostwriter? The premise is once again in Stephen King territory. A bestselling author of horror novels (hmm) is confronted by one of his fans who is claiming he stole a novel from him.
Wait, that’s it? you ask.
No. This is what Ghostwriter is to me–why I wrote it, what came out on the pages, and the feelings echoing off it:
13.5 years in publishing
Grief
The true nature of fear
Pink Floyd
Geneva, Illinois
Bestselling authors and their fans
Writer’s block
Where authors get their ideas
Horror
The past
Faith
The descent into madness
Wanting and needing control when we don’t have a bit of it
Heaven and Hell.
Time. Time. “Time”
